I’ve heard all of this talk about this “super” moon, that’s supposed to happen every so many years and I was hoping for some clear skies so that I might be able to get the chance to take some images of it.  While in the process of trying to photograph this super moon, if you can believe it, I forgot how!  As I was standing out on my office balcony trying to remember how to shoot the moon, it finally dawned on me…. what I should be doing.  I shot the first 3 with a 400 mm lens, shooting manually at iso 100, f11 and exposure time 1/125, I shot the last one with the 400 mms lens with a 2x extender at iso 50, f11 and exposure time 1/125.  Hope you like what I’ve done.

This is the same image as the image above …. I just had to do a little fun with photoshop and add the Eagle because when I thought it out …… It looked like freedom to me ….. as I see it. I hope you like what I created

Well ….. here it is again ….. “The Last Great Race” Alaska’s Super Bowl of sports …. and I missed it again for the second time in my life and  the only thing that comes to mind is Johnny Hortons song “NORTH TO ALASKA”. I won’t miss it ever again, so in a kind of a tribute to the GREAT RACE ……. here are some images that I took of the race the last time I was in Alaska and they are ….. to me the M.V.P.”s of the race.

Around The Corner …. “SPRING”

Well !!!!! ………… It’s not long now and spring will be here …. and for me that means “Alaska”, here I come. I love spring. It means new life and better times ahead and that’s what it means to animals too. These baby gull chick’s think so too,I believe ……. I also know that they are hungry ……. I love photographing babies of all kinds and for me, spring gives me that ability to really get into my passion of photography strong and hard. Sometimes it can really get scary to photograph babies …… especially with their mothers around. I think though  …. if you just keep your distance and be as quiet as you can, you can get those cute images that your striving for ….. and everyone benefits from that ……….

HOW TIME FLIES

Focal Length: 40, F/Stop: 5.6, Exposure Time: 1/6

Focal Length: 32, F/Stop: 4.5, Exposure Time: 1/40

In 18 days,….. only 18 days is the difference between fall and winter this last year ….. I’m just trying to show the difference between how fast it can come on and how fast you should get your images ….. I think that during the fall there is ample opportunity for some great and beautiful images to be had before the winter hits ….. but when winter decides to strike, that time limited …. and for last year ….  it was only 18 days

Great Blue Heron

Focal Length: 800, F/Stop: 5.6, Exposure Time: 1/800

These two Great Blue Herons images I took in Alaska …more exact Potters Marsh, just south of Anchorage Ak. Alaska doesn’t get that many GBHs, but they do show up every now and again and this GBH showed up at potters marsh early one morning as the sun was coming up over the church Mountains. There had been forest fires in the area, so with the smoky haze in the air …. it made the red glow magnify all that much more and it made the GBH look a little redder than it should look ….. hope you like
